Great Night |
This years annual FONIC Trust Summer event turned out to be a great success. Nearly 100 people turned out for a bar-be-que meal at Kings Fellowship's buildings in Bangor. In addition to being introduced to our latest Trustee, Roy Uprichard, we had an opportunity to link via Skype Video with our folks in Kathmandu. It was good to be reminded of the things that are being achieved in Nepal. From our Business as Mission enterprise to the production of materials for women's groups dealing with motherhood and childcare. Roll on next year...

In the Frame! |
Earlier today FONIC Trust's project Mahema Industries based in Kathmandu hosted a visit by Carolyn Dartnell from Living Truth Ministries. Living Truth is a ministry of The Peoples Church, Toronto, Canada. Carolyn was keen to discuss the motivation behind the project, target groups and our goals and aspirations for the future. She was particularly keen to talk at length with Bruce as The Peoples Church support the O'Neill's ministry. Living Truth Ministries broadcast coast to coast across Canada. It is hoped that a three to four minute report on the activities of the Mahema Project will be broadcast sometime in the next couple of months. This is the second time in a few months that the folks at Mahema have hosted a camera crew. Hopefully in the not too distant future you will be able to see Carolyn's piece on this and the Mahema websites.

Thank you to everyone who made a donation as we were able to lodge in excess of £1000 following the event.

Not so good news |
Recent news from Kathmandu has not been encouraging. Politically there have been major changes with the Maoist Prime Minister resigning and a newly appointed minority supportered Prime Minister taking his place. At the weekend a bomb went off at an RC church in the city resulting in the death of two people.

Trustee Vists Nepal |
Trustee John Shannon and his wife Liz have just completed a visit to Nepal leaving on Sunday 22nd March. During their time in Nepal John and Liz took time to follow up on some of the activities of FONIC Trust. This included visits to the Mahema Project and Grace Rescue Home. "Taking time to visit Nepal always enables us as Trustees get a better understanding not just what is happening in Nepal but also the difficulties and challenges faced in living in this wonderful country" stated John prior to his departure. In addition to spending time 'working' John and Liz enjoyed a short trek in the Himalayan foothills north of Pokhara.

We are delighted to report that the recent visit of Arbin and Bimala Pokheral from Kathmandu to Northern Ireland was a resounding success.
On Sunday Arbin was invited to preach at Kings Fellowship, Bangor. Those present will remember his application of the book of Jonah for a long time. Indeed it was fitting that someone of his calibre was speaking on the day the Fellowship commissioned a couple to return for mission to Papua New Guinea. An evening spent with members of a Christian Fellowship in Castlerock, Co. Antrim proved to a fitting end to a busy period. Such was the impact of Arbin and Bimala’s presentation and the sense of unity in the Holy Spirit that everyone present was touched with companion and inspiration for the work of the Church in Nepal. FONIC Trust is delighted to have been part of the conduit that enabled Arbin and Bimala to spend time in Northern Ireland. As we develop as an entity it would be our desire to see similar events in the future. The Bible makes it clear that ‘it is good when Christians work together in harmony’, those involved in Arbin and Bimala’s visit can pay witness to knowing what such unity feels like. We wish Arbin and Bimala well as they move on in their trip to the West and look forward to linking up with them again in Kathmandu soon.
